ORIGINAL GAME CONCEPT
Originally drawn on a scroll of blank paper and taped to a cardboard box, our kids created an innovative new board game. The rules were simple yet unique enough to make it a refreshing twist on the standard kid’s games.
We were all impressed with how fun it was, so we decided to make a real life version for our family as a keepsake.
As the designer, my goal was to keep their original rules and components intact; and just give it a good look.
MArket Testing
The original intent was to create a one-off keepsake for our family. But that changed when my youngest daughter took the game to school for show and tell.
What we didn’t know was that this was about to be our first foray into market research. As it turns out, the game was a hit. Soon, parents were asking about how they could get a copy.
The final game dEsigN
After our impromptu test, we realized we had to adjust the game path to make it a little easier to follow. Once we did that, it was all systems go. It was time for manufacturing!
Rainbow Unicorn Match game
Based on the success of “Rainbow Unicorn Rescue”, we recently launched our second game, “Rainbow Unicorn Match Game”. The key difference between our match game and the million other match games is that we are the first memory match game to include wild cards.
Picture book
During our Covid delay, we had a little time on our hands, so I wrote and illustrated a companion children’s picture book, “Rainbow Unicorn Adventure Time”.
Social
Social media is important for so many reasons. The obvious is that it gives us a free platform to boost awareness. But it also allows us establish a retargeting strategy for our advertising. Below are a just a few examples of some campaigns we run.
Branding
EMAIL SIGN UP INCENTIVES
To help drive email sign up, we created a series of free kids projects; including coloring pages, word searches, mazes and connect the dots. To date, we have over 40 projects, and continue to grow.
Kickstarter
Due to Covid delays, we had time to launch a Kickstarter campaign. Within 3 days, we were featured on their “Projects We Love”, and reached 147% funding in just 3 weeks.
